This, as the first mail to Films & TV, is a direct order from someone who knows his movies.

CHECK OUT KEVIN SMITH'S FILMS!!!!!

You'll find his films witty yet informative. But most of all, fecking brilliant!

If you don't happen to know which films are his, here they are:

1) Clerks
Kev sold his comic book collection to make this. Instant cult success. And VERY cool.

2) Mallrats
Kev's first major movie. Not as clever as Clerks, but Very VERY funny!

3) Chasing Amy
I only saw this last night, VERY impressed. Ben Afleck in "I can do a good film" shocker!

So, catch up on the adventures of Jay and Silent Bob in these 3 films!

Snoochie Boochies!

Episode 1 is not going to be called 'The Phantom Menace' as far as I know. If you have been to the cinema recently, you may have seen the trailer, DAMN IT'S COOL, and it's being sold as Star Wars: Episode 1. No mention of Phantoms.

I wanna direct Episode 3!!!

This will be more relevant to British people than the Americans and the Australians, but hell, I'm British ;)

For the past couple of weeks, BBC2 have been showing a series of short films, funded by the BBC for a series called 'The Talent' now, don't get me wrong, give money to people who wanna make films. It's the way ahead. BUT, there's a difference. It seems to be that the only way you can get money to make a film in this country is to make some kinda 'Oh the agony' supposedly artistic arse.

There is a REASON why British films don't do well in other countries....we're too up our own arses! Eddie "Danger" Izzard explains it the best in "Dress to kill".

Why can't British film companies, and the people who fund them, give money to people who wanna make films that others wanna watch??? American films are nicely shot, well scripted, Australian films are humourous, Hong Kong films are slick and stylised, French films are sureal, Brit films are just plain dull!

Rant over ;)

Okay, here's how it works. I'm gonna quote a film. Then, you lot mail the following information:

Who said it, in what film, and, if you can, what the following line was, and who it was said by.

Example:
Q: Join me, and together we can rule the galaxy as Father and Son!!!

Answer: James Earl Jones as Darth Vader in Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back
Next line was :"Nooooo! I'll never join you!" said by Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker.

You get the idea.

The question will last 1 week, or until someone guesses correctly. Don't worry too much about the 'what was said next' part, unless you REALLY wanna show off ;)

There may be prizes too....if I abuse my wiz bit ;)

Okay, here's the answers to Tarots extremly easy quote.

The film was "Mallrats" and the lines was spoken by 'T.S.' who was played by Jeremy London. The film was written and directed by Kevin 'Silent Bob' Smith, and was edited by Paul Dixon. It was released in 1995 :)

The following line was "Yeah! My dad's really pissed at you T.S." and was said by 'Brandy Svening' who was played by Claire Forlani.

Want any more information? Or have I passed?

As for the second quote, that was a 'rough' line from Mission: Improbable. The character who said something similar, the line was "I've got the manual", was Toffee Penny, who was played by Jane Taylor. The film was written, directed, produced and edited by me and was released in 1997 by Dominion Productions.

The following line was "Okay, Penny. Tell Byte what to do!" and was said by "Mr. Felts" who was played by Robert "Sharrow" Taylor.

Okay, MY next quote ;)

Quote: "What you don't know about me I could just about cram into the Grand Canyon."

There, another easy one. Just gimme the actor, character, film, writer and the director. I don't expect you to know who the editor was....but in case you're interested, it was: Scott Mosier.

Have fun ;)

As some of you should know by now, Stanley Kubrick, the genius film director who created such classics as The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, 2001 and Dr. Strangelove was found dead yesterday.

Although he was 70, and had made a name for himself by refusing to sell out and direct any old dross, everything he did worked.

So, let us remember him, and all his films. It's a loss to all people with taste in decent film making.

Righty ho, let's give this list a new lease of life. Why not use this list to review a film/video that you've seen recently. Explain what was good, what was bad, and a mark outta 10.

Review 1: The Faculty
-----------

This is the lastest script from Kevin "Scream, I know what you did last Summer" Williamson and has been directed by Robert "Desperado, From Duck Till Dawn" Rodriguez. And I think it's pretty cool.
The film, as with all Kevin Williamson scripts, stars some attractive, but unknown actors and actresses...alas, one of these is Elijah Wood. Yes, the annoying child actor. Still, plenty of good looking women to take your mind off that fact.
The film follows an 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' crossed with 'The Thing' crossed with 'Scream' kinda feel. Aliens have taken over the teachers in a high school, and the only ones who can do anything are of course the kids.
Besides the cliched plot, Williamson's script is first rate, I've always admired his catchy dialogue and humour, and the way that he can paraody films, and actually get away with it. Plus, Rodriguez is a FINE director/editor/camerabloke. You'll notice that he rarely uses a tripod, prefering instead to do hand held shots which give action sequences a bit more pep.
If you wanna see something no overly scary, funny, and well shot/directed, then check out this film. Well worth the 4 quid entry fee.

Mark: 7 outta 10

Review 2: 8MM
---

8MM is the latest film from the director of 'The Lost Boys' and 'Falling Down' Mr. Joel Schumacher. Now, before you start thinking that this film is gonna be great, remember, the last film he directed was the crime against celluloid 'Batman & Robin' so, let's not jump the gun here. The film stars one Nicolas Cage, who you might have heard of, as a PI sent to find out whether the 8mm film of a young 17 year old girl being murdered is fake, or real.
Yep, that's right, the wonderful world of Snuff movies is explored here. Yeah. Wonderful. Where's me bucket?
It's hard to praise this film too much. It's very slickly shot, the lighting is great, and Nicolas Cage is as good as ever. But, the pacing does seem to let it down a bit. And there's lots of shots of Cage walking around in the dark, mumbling. But hell, I like that sorta shot. Very artistic.
Bearing in mind that the script was written by the same geezer who wrote Se7en, you'll begin to realise that this film is kinda disturbing. It's certainly not a chick-flick. At all. Certain parts made me feel sick, and it took me a while to get to sleep last night after watching it. This is the dark-side of humanity.
Overall, I would say it's definately worth going to see, and although it's not gonna win any Oscars, and the soundtrack is SHITE, it certainly didn't deserve the negative press that some magazines have given it. Joel, you've done okay on this one ;)

Mark: 8 outta 10

Will smith once again plays the same kind of caracter as he does in every film he has ever done. But once again it works, thought the efects are fantastic and the story is unbelieveable but it is all round family fun. there are jokes for everyone, parents and kids alike
the jokes are touge and cheek, but towards the end seem to be the same old thing over and over. but jsut as you thinkt he film is getting dull the story twists in a way you did not expect and trows a whole new pile of jokes at you

well that is my two cent's worth

I must admit, I had not very high hopes for this film; I only suggested Steve and I go to see if because The Uptown (the premier Washington D.C theater, with the screen 3 stories tall) was right across from Nam Viet, our Friday-night dinner-date restaurant of choice was across the street.

Steve Martin once again surprises me. This film is "The Jerk" quality, and we all know that he has done very few quality films since then ("Father of the Bride," need I say more?). Martin writes and directs a clever film about an independent film-maker and his struggle to make a film starring the hottest actor in Hollywood, who does not want to star in the film. While there are few hearty belly-laughs, I found myself chuckling audibly throughout the entire movie. Heather Graham plays a convincing tart-like shmoozing newcomer actress, then again, I think that's the only role she is really good at anyway. Eddie Murphy is hilarious as Kit Ramsey and Jeff Ramsey (Kit's brother), one of the funniest roles I've ever seen him in. The supporting cast is not as spectacular, with the exception of Christine Baranski. Baranski is as charmingly posh, and brings humor and a graceful flavor to the 'filming' scenes.

Overall, Bowfinger might look weak from the trailers, but I would wager to say that it's one of the funniest Steve Martin movies I've seen yet.

YES!!!! Finally i know something Craig doesn't/.... according to my c sources, Scream 3 will feature Neve as a actress involved in making.. yes.. you guessed it. A scary Movie... (yawn)
Just saw a good film btw, Picnic at Hanging Rock. Based ona true story of a group of girls who went into the Australian Bush in 1900 , and 2 of them dissapeared forevwer, One of them was found but can remember nothing.. it's okay, fairly scary (but then ANYTHING scares me).

Ha! They call that Widescreen!? This is about as Widescreen as a bottle of dr pepper! At least it doesn't cost more than the Panscan one, that's all I can say.
It's still widescreen, but hardly at all, so there is still hardly any benefit. This is REALLY annoying becuase there are some scene in the Truman Show where a true widescreen image would have made a massive difference. Bah!

Don't see Wing Commander. Awful, just awful. There was no action, the script was shit, and they were tring to make a movie like star wars but without action and a decent enemy.
Still, if you're with the right people, it doesn't matter that much what the movies are like.

Don't read this if you haven't seen the film.

Ok, so th3 plot was fairly crud, but there were some cool bits. Like when Samuel L Jackson was doing the whole 'We've got to stick together, etc etc etc' speech and the shark just leaps up and grabs him. Heh. That was cool. And when the geeky bloke gets torn in half, and you see his legs drifting past the camera twitching. That was also cool.
And the bloke whose arm got bitten off, that was quite funny becuase he was just doomed from the point where he got attacked, right through until he get dropped into the sea by the helicopter and thrown throught that window by the shark becuase it wanted to break it.
And when the woman is going after the waterrpoof Zip disk and thinks a shark is floating towards her when it's just the model one. Heh.
And at the end when the big one gets killed and there's lovely chunks of flesh dropping from the sky.
And also at the end where that bloke stabs the big one in the eye.
And when the bird gets eaten by the shark.
And when that woman rises out of the water with the shark clutching he by the parts which shouldn't be mentioned.
And loads of blood and gore all the way through. Yay!

Best Int Film - The Matrix
Best Int. Director - M Night Shyamalan - 6th Sense
Best Brit Actor - Hugh Grant??? What the fuck????
Best Brit Actress - Helena Bonham-Carter
Best Brit Director - Roger Mitchell for Notting Hill!
Best Actor - Pierce Brosnan for TWINE
Best Actress - Gwyneth Fucking Paltrow
Contribution To Cinema - ILM
Movie Masterpiece - Oliver Stone for JFK

I wonder, after Stone collected his award, and they get ferried off, if it went something like this:

Stone: Which Way?
Bloke: Back, and to the left.
Stone: Sorry?
Bloke: Back and to the left, back and to the left, back and to the left, back and to the left.
Stone: You taking the piss?

Okay, I told you this was obscure ;)

Allysson Hannigan was in 1987's My Stepmother Is An Alien - with Dan Ackroyd. Seth Green played the love interest in the same film.

The similarity? Well, he plays 'Willows' love interest in Buffy seasons 2-3-4-?

Pedantic enough??? Anyone else got any obscure links?

6 degrees of seperation time ;)

Eg: John Travolta - Martin Scorsese: John -> Nic Cage (Face/Off)....Nic Cage -> Bringing Out The Dead -> Martin Scorsese....

Here's another. In as few people as possible, using actors/actresses/people they've worked for...link David Duchovny and...ohh...lemme think....Johnny Depp...

JUST by people films/TV shows ;)

No RIGHT answer, just shortest route.

The film you're talking about is 'Gone In 60 Seconds' which, as you noticed has Nicolas Cage in it. It also has Angelina Jolie and Vinnie Jones in it. It's a remake of an old film which is famous for having a 40 minutes car destructive conclussion. And yes, in the old film they have to steal 50 cars....in this one it's 100.

The cars have to be stolen in 1 night in order to pay off Nic Cage's brothers debts before he's killed. But another gang are after the cars too apparently.

I think it opens here around the 17th of August.

Nuff info?

If I were you, I'd probably start with Spike Lee--there are several web sites about him, his films, interviews, etc. which would probably get you some leads. Maybe look for D. W. Those would pretty much be the end points of that discusson, IMO.

No I'm not kidding. Unless you've seen the adverts the full horror is quite hard to comperhend.
Directed by Wes Craven- And we know that Wes has never directed a good sequel in his life (scream 2 was a let down).
It stars a bunch of bright young things (oh and Johnny Lee Miller) who *gasp* Know all about vampires and how to beat them.
And yet again they all get separated and bitten because 'vampires aren't like they are in the movies!'
Proving once more that a cull of young americans would expendentially benifit the world in general.

A point to add about Johnny Lee Miller '*in scottish accent* Regenration and Plunket and Mclane are just blips in an ever decreasing spiral. You have it and then you loose it.' And boy has he lost it.

sharrow - he loves JLM really he just wishes he'd pull his thumb out of his arse and make movies like Hackers and Trainspotting again.

Subject: What I know of Life I learnt from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

How Buffy the vampire slayer made me realise I am an unknowing minion of the powers of Darkness...

1. Only those without souls crave nicotine. Which brings a whole new dimension to the post-coital smoke... and speaking of that...

2. Sex is evil, physical expressions of love inevitably either end in tragedy (Buffy/Angel, Giles/Jenny) or are a crude means of relieving tension (Faith/Xander) that will leave you scarred. Oh, and girls that enjoy sex, or (gasp) have one-nighters, are sluts doomed to turn to the dark side. In fact, anyone even remotely sensual is heading for trouble (Jenny, Buffy) and all mortal guys are abusive sex maniacs (see: just about anyone that has ever hit on Buffy. But don't worry--they pay for it by either being outright dead, a vampire, or a giant fish by the end of the episode.)

3. However, if you stick a big sword into your lover, (Freudian imagery anyone?) or remain a perpetual virgin, you're allowed back onto the lightside to defend the forces of righteousness. (Perhaps Joss didn't get laid on prom night. He's certainly got an enormous virgin/whore complex...)

4. Alcohol, too, is utilised solely by the soulless, (Spike), the darkly unpredictable (Giles in a Ripper-esque mood) or the completely clueless (Joyce) oh, and the Irish, for some reason...

5. Brits are dodgy. They're either outright evil (Spike, Dru, that Watcher woman) have repressed dark sides (Giles) or are into chaos and worship bizarre Roman Gods (Ethan) They're also majorly into large, suspiciously Illuminati-like organisations (The Watchers Council.)

6. Also, whilst in US colleges students are busy with keggers and fraternities; in the UK university students spend most of their valuable drinking/wenching/partying time courting the powers of darkness, and trying to raise demons. Cultural differences, who knew?

7. Tattoos are bad. They will either summon demons, (Giles/Ethan/Buffy) or be actually emblazoned on demons (Angelus). However, tattoo removal is a relatively inexpensive, quick and easy process. (Buffy's Eyghon tattoo)

8. If you can't think of a word that will get past the censors, settle for making up a descriptive one (wrinklies), or using Euro-talk. You can get away with a lot of naughtiness that way (Imagine if instead of 'wanker' or 'shag', they'd used 'masturbator' or 'fuck'-- not quite the same ring, yeah? 'Balls' instead of 'bollocks', and 'up your arse' instead of 'bugger'-- can't see it happening anytime soon...)

9. English People wear tweed. All of them. All the time. If they're female they supplement it with pearls. And they're reserved. Unless they're undead, in which case empire dresses in the staple colours of red and black will do fine.

10. Bad people wear black leather, or other shiny black substances. The forces of good wear pastels. See: Faith, Angelus, Spike, Ripper (in teen photo), for examples of leather chic. And Buffy, as an example of pastel overkill.

11. Nudity is evil. You'll go to the bad if you're comfortable with it (see Faith) And if you appear with even the suggestion of nudity you'll end up sending your boyfriend to hell (Buffy). Oh, and everyone in Hell is naked, so it must be bad. (Angel) Even partial nudity can threaten to turn you into a giant mutant fish (Xander) or just get you shoved outside into the cold.

12. People with cockney accents are unequivocally bad. They're either vampires (Spike & Dru) or demon worshipping, crazed Watcher monkeys (Ripper). Or Ethan Rayne. Either way, they have no respect for law and order. They do, however, have very good cheekbones.

13. The forces of evil have snappy comebacks. The forces of good stutter. (Well, okay, only Willow and Giles do, and not all the time... I just liked the sound of it, alright?)
So basically, BtVS has taught me that evil is anyone who smokes, drinks, gets laid, and indulges in snappy repartee... hmmm... in other words, evil is the way to go!

Sorry but I still think that Dru either speaks with a incredibly bad english accent or is in fact south african. And as for the evil thing....show me to the gates of hell. But I think I'll pass on the smoking.

Just watched the Episode 2 trailer... what a load of bollocks.

Now, I know it's only the teaser, but c'mon! The episode 1 teaser was ace... this looks kinda dodgy... the effects don't look that good - almost comic book like....

I hope this isn't a sign....

Oh, and I'm not even gonna comment on the shite title...

I too saw the trailer on the site (it is tiny and crappy)
However i also saw the trailer in the cinema and all i can say is WOW it looked a lot better int he cinema, and was affective, yes a couple of the scenes looks a little dogy (ie the boba fett one did look cartoony) but i have a feeling that may be fixed.

As for the title please let that be a working title and not the real one PLEASE GOD PLEASE>

Not seen the trailer yet - BAH college not having Quicktime installed.

Anyway, this whole thing about 'Oh my God that had better not be the real title' - didn't this exact same thing happen with the first one, although not quite as much?

I have to agree with Llion... Not particularly great...

Sin City was though...
And Star Wars...
And Batmans supposed to be phenominal...

Here's hoping!
